How Many Hours Should You Book a Private Catamaran Charter in Cancun?

Travel Guides · November 3, 2026

A private catamaran charter in Cancun is yours to shape — your own boat, your own guest list, and no fixed schedule to follow. The one decision that shapes everything else is simple: how many hours do you book? Here is how to match the length of your charter to what you actually want out of the day.

What Every Private Catamaran Charter Includes

  • ⚓️ A captain and crew for the whole trip
  • 📍 Departure from Marina Playa Tortugas, Blvd. Kukulcán km 6.5, in the Hotel Zone
  • 🍺 Freedom to bring your own food and drinks on board

Because the boat is private, the price is per boat, not per person — the only thing that changes with the number of hours is how much time you get on the water.

Choosing Your Charter Length: 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 Hours

Our private catamarans are booked for 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 hours. As a general guide:

  • ⏱️ 4 hours: a relaxed cruise along the Hotel Zone coastline, with time to anchor, swim and relax — a good fit if you already have plans later in the day
  • ⏱️ 5–6 hours: enough time to sail out toward Isla Mujeres, anchor in calm water and still have a proper window to enjoy the boat
  • ⏱️ 7–8 hours: a full day on the water — sailing time, time anchored near Isla Mujeres and time to go ashore and explore the island before heading back

If your group wants to actually set foot on Isla Mujeres and not just sail past it, lean toward the longer end. If the goal is simply a few hours of sun and open water close to the Hotel Zone, 4 hours is plenty. There is no single right answer — a bachelorette party that wants to dance and keep moving might be happiest with 4 or 5 hours, while a family celebration or a milestone birthday often makes better use of a full 7 or 8 hours, with a stop on the island built in.

Matching the Catamaran to Your Group

Once you know how many hours you want, pick a boat sized for your group — capacity is what really narrows the list, more than the length in feet. Our private catamarans, grouped by how many guests they take:

  • ⛵ Up to 25 guests: the 37 ft boats — Lady Esther, Aleta and Oh Lala — a good fit for smaller groups and more intimate celebrations
  • ⛵ Up to 30–35 guests: the 40 ft boats (Ata, Supercat, Kendo, Khaya, Mango, Malube and Pachanga), the 42 ft Isla Morada and the 42 ft Mydas
  • ⛵ Up to 45–55 guests: the 45 ft Samba 1, the 50 ft Samba 4, the 55 ft Lady Laura and the 60 ft Paloma
  • ⛵ 65–100 guests: the 82 ft Amazing, the 75 ft Induna and the largest in the fleet, the 78 ft Samba 3 — built for big groups and full-scale celebrations

Every boat page shows pricing for each of the 4–8 hour options, so you can compare the size you need against the time you want.

Good to Know Before You Sail

  • 💵 The dock fee is $20 USD per person, paid at the marina; tips for the crew are not included
  • 🚑 Hotel transportation is available as an optional extra service provided by a third party
  • 🌊 Safety comes first: if the Port Authority closes navigation, your trip is rescheduled

Since you are bringing your own food and drinks, it is worth deciding before you get to the marina whether you want to stop for supplies, order catering or simply pack a cooler — the crew will have everything else ready for you on board.
